For once I was eager to get Baltar’s scenes over with; the rest of the episode was so economical that the action died whenever we were in Baltar’s studio.
The best example of this economy was the scene between Lee and Tyrol, which gave us a glimpse into how the Fleet will eventually be reunited.
Best line delivery goes to Sackoff: “I can do this all night.”
Thanks to Roslin's petulant absenteeism, Zarek is the most legitimate civilian actor in the Fleet. Gaeta's gonna end up hanging from a lamppost, but Zarek will be able to successfully disavow him, and he deserves to.
I’m actually kind of glad Roslin and Baltar had their Straussian exchange about being part-time theocrats, but I fear it won’t be the last word. The only satisfactory resolution has to come from Lee, and I’d like to see him improve upon the perspectives offered by Roslin, Kara, Baltar, Zarek, and the Admiral, but I don’t see the latter happening without the Admiral’s death.
I'm just glad everyone's stopped being so Emo. Kara's supposed to be suicidal, but more Viking Berserker, less Robert Smith. Good to see the mama bear back.
Baltar's call to Felix felt oddly forced. It's hard to remember these two had a close working relationship together.
I've seen many comments diagnosing Felix with hero-worship (first Baltar, now Zarek), and I'm sure there's an undercurrent of homophobia in such diagnoses.
The most charitable (to Baltar) interpretation of Baltar's call to Felix is that a) Baltar knows he's safer in Roslin-Adama's hands than in Zarek-Gaeta's, and b) Baltar hoped to shake Felix's confidence at a crucial moment.
I still think Zarek's grievances and claim to legitimacy are being given short shrift by most fen. Roslin and Adama practically begged for a coup.
