Unlike Tully's, Zanadu Comics is on the way to my bus, and I stopped in today after work. The Watchmen merchandising was in full flower. As I browsed this week's releases, I noticed that the store staff weren't listening to their usual Top 40 station but rather a sultry blues number, which gave way to frikkin' Koyaanisqatsi. I was about to ask why they chose this particular playlist, when I suddenly realized they were selling the soundtrack.
I think I knew Glass had been used in a TV spot, but I knew better than to assume any deeper association. Part of being so detached from popular music is a comparative immunity to attempts at musical evocation of a given zeitgeist, but this one kind of works on me.
