More Named Characters should have been snuffed, to drive home the tragic waste trope (did Sam even die?). The interlude with Tyrol in the munitions locker was nice. Baltar’s crisis of conscience was ham-handed and empty; Callis could have done it without any lines. Also, where did it go? Baltar’s lines should have been devoted to convincing the rebel Cylons to give Roslin a chance.
The biggest disappointment was the short shrift the writers gave Zarek. Until he had the Quorum snuffed, Zarek could have made the case that he simply used the junta to escape unjust imprisonment. Quite simply, killing the Quorum represents a failure of Zarek to keep his nerve. Still, it was fine illustration of how ruthless violence can spread like an infection.
What are we to make of Zarek’s notion that false news of Tigh’s death would break Adama’s resolve?
Perhaps I watched it too early in the morning, but can someone help me out with what Baltar and Gaeta exchanged in the brig at the end?
I’m not very happy with the use of a firing squad for a civilian traitor like Zarek (I got too strong a whiff of Breaker Morant).
