Infinite Combinations

So, has anyone seen this yet?  Oscar wants to go, but he's only seen one (1) TOS episode and no other series or films, and I'm concerned that he will be mis-imprinted and split off into a parallel nerd-universe out of phase with nerds who grew up with the preceding five series and ten films.

  1. Ehn. I went in with low expectations, which were met. I had fun, though I was annoyed by the worse-than-normal disregard for any sort of universal consistency or audience credibility. I was annoyed a bit more by just how far they went to include charicatures of way too many TOS members.

For Oscar, I'm not sure I can model fandom well enough to guess whether it's a good "introduction" to the universe. I suspect not, but I also suspect that it's a doomed line of inquiry. Do what's fun, and that may or may not lead to various realms of nerdliness and fandom. Identifying with star trek nerds probably shouldn't be a goal for any child, and certainly not for his parents.

  2. Once Oscar proclaimed his interest in the film, I DVR'd the next TOS episode in the rotation, which happily turned out to be "The Doomsday Machine."  He's watched it about six times now, so I've queued up a dozen more eps with Netflix.  I'm sure repetition will overcome initial IMAX imprinting.
