While it might be obvious to anyone who knows me, it is nevertheless worth noting that I hold no particular brief or loyalty for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons beyond the fact that it was (for me, as for countless others) the first roleplaying game I encountered. Despite the fact that for many years I was snobbish enough to consider AD&D (and most TSR products) hopelessly backward, the author of Grognardia maintains a breadth of experience and a passion for gaming that attracts a caliber of comment that transcends mere nostalgia (not that theres anything wrong with that) and richly informs contemporary gaming practices.
